Marketing Research Assignment

Introduction:
It's important to find out what the people in your market want.  Understanding the people you are dealing with and their needs is the first step in successful communication.  To help you with this skill we will conduct a market research assignment by carrying out a survey and compiling and reporting the data.

The assignment will include 3 different parts:
  1. Creation of the survey material.
  2. Carrying out the survey.
  3. Compiling and writing the report.
The assignment scenario:
You are a web site designer and you are marketing a product to your local high school.  You need to take a survey to find the best image that will communicate your product and get the best reaction.  This data will be given to the marketing team.

1.  Creation of the Survey Material
  • Choose a product you want to market.
  • Find or create 3 images that represent your product.  (the images will be in black and white when they are printed)
  • Using Photoshop, place each of these images on a 8.2 X10.5 piece of paper in landscape format.
  • Print the paper using the school printer.  (If you want them in color you'll need to find another printer).
  • An example of your survey material:
2.  Carry out the Survey
  • You need to find out which image gets people's attention the most.  Decide how will you organize your survey?  Remember the examples from class.
3.  Compile and Write Your Report    You must include in your report:
  • A graph that includes:
  • The total number of people surveyed. (the more, the better)
  • The number that chose each image.
  • The percentage of people that liked each image.
  • A focus questions that will get a quick response from the person you are talking to.  Focus questions should be very short and looking for a specific answer.  They should allow the person you are interviewing to make a simple choice.  The question for the image above might be: Which image do you think is the most interesting?
  • A 100 word summary of what people told you about their choices.  What did people like or dislike.  What was the general reaction to the images.
  • Your recommendations based on your survey.  Which image would you use and why?

NOTE: Make sure and take notes so you can remember what people said.
