Filming Practice

Now that we've watched a short film, and a documentary it's time to practice shooting using similar angles and camera movement.

To get credit for this assignments complete the following steps.

1.  Find a 30 second clip that you want to copy. You may use one of the movies shown in class or you can find one of your own.  NOTE: Don't pick scenes with a lot of special effects.
2.  "Copy" the shots using your phone or one of my video cameras.
You should be focused on:
  • Camera Angle
  • Camera Motion
  • Duration
  • Setup - if the scene is shot outside, shoot outside.  Try to get the scene as close to the original as possible.

3.  Edit the footage to resemble the video you selected.

4.  We will take your movie and set it next to the video you shoot and watch them both at the same time.  You will be graded based on how closely your shots resemble the shots in the video you choose.

NOTES:
Shots do not need to be shot so they make sense.  They just need to look the same.  You may shoot your footage on multiple days and with multiple people.
You will not be graded based on sound.
